Day 100 ~ Woods Canyon Lake Coconino County, AZ

July 3rd, 2016 ~ Day 100

I made it to 100 days!!! How awesome is that! I was excited for this day to come and wanted to go somewhere I’ve never been. So after talking to Renee, who told Amanda, who shared with me…I did a Meetup with Trail Mix at Woods Canyon Lake. There were probably about 30 people in our group.

Eric and I drove to the lake, heading there early in the morning. We hiked the Woods Canyon Loop Trail which is about 3.5 miles wrapping around the entire lake. It was so nice to be up in the cooler weather at somewhere above 7000 foot elevation rather than the sweltering heat of the city.

Along the way we were able to stop and see where the Eagles were nesting. There was a couple from the Arizona Fish and Game who happened to have a telescope for us to see. It was pretty awesome!

We continued on through the forest where we walked along pine needles. You could smell the pine in the air. The forest had a lot of ferns and some areas had beautiful rocks covered in moss. We also saw squirrels, chipmunks and butterflies. Reminds me of home.

After the hike Eric and I went kayaking. Because the lake was so crowded and there was no parking, we carried the kayaks about a half mile to the lake.

We only spent about an hour on the lake paddling around and just relaxing on the water. A wonderful day on this beautiful weekend. I didn’t want to leave. It was a great way to spend my 100th day of hiking!
