January 6th, 2017 ~ Day 287
Darkness surrounded me as I began my hike. With a hint of the suns glow off in the distance, that’s all I could capture. I had planned to head over to West Wing Mountain this morning, but driving up 67th Avenue I saw Thunderbird Mountain and decided I’d save the ten minutes of driving.
I began my hike from the 67th Avenue parking lot and headed south along the base of the mountain. Knowing I have a big hike tomorrow, I didn’t want to exhaust my legs. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t do West Wing. I would consider that mountain a difficult hike.
As I came up over the trail, heading east now, the sun was glowing brightly across the horizon. The skies were beginning to brighten up.
As I continued heading east the sun began to glow across the horizon. A little brighter as the hike wore on. Grateful, as I’m really not a fan of hiking in the dark.
My hike became a square on the map. Hiking just over two miles this morning. Nothing too difficult. I’m glad I chose to do this in preparation for the long hike coming up tomorrow. Another beautiful morning on the trail. Love this life!
