Day 186 ~ Thunderbird Mountain Glendale, AZ

September 27th, 2016 ~ Day 186

Can you believe it? Eric and I were actually kicked off the mountain tonight! I guess there’s a first time for everything!

After my flight from Chicago the night before, I woke up late and couldn’t make it to the trails. Having to work late, we didn’t make it to the trail until it was dark. Luckily the gate was still open and we were able to park.

There was still a little bit of light out as we began hiking, but thank goodness Eric had a headlamp so we could see. Parking off 59th Avenue we headed up the hill to do the small loop. We were only .4 miles into our hike when we heard over a megaphone, “Exit the park immediately, the park is now closed”.

Uh oh, we’re in trouble now. 😊 I’ve hiked here in the dark before and never had that happen. So we turned around to head back to the trailhead and the ranger went on his way. I’m thinking, had we not had the headlamp, he would have never saw us. I’m sure he just wanted to go home.

It was completely dark by the time we were finished with our short .8 mile hike. We didn’t even get a mile in, but that’s okay. We came here, we hiked and I’m going to make it count. Still continuing on this journey completing my goal! Love this life and all the adventures it entails.

Join me on my journey of hiking everyday for 365 days, to see all that I can see! Never miss out on a post and “like” me on Facebook and for more photos follow me on Instagram!
