August 12th, 2016 ~ Day 140
Another beautiful morning on the mountain! Eric and I headed to Shaw Butte this morning. Arriving around 5:30, we made it before the sun began to rise and we caught another amazing sunrise over the mountains.
Parking off Central south of Thunderbird, the Trail 306 starts uphill and stays that way pretty much till the top where the towers are. There are a few flat spots to give us a break, but with the climb, it wasn’t much. This hike is a challenge.
Trail 306 is about 4.5 miles long, but with time restraints, we weren’t able to do the loop. We climbed almost to the peak before turning around and hiked about 2.5 miles.
The loop is more intense, especially if you go up the back way. A good training hike for the Grand Canyon.
On the back side of the mountain there used to be a restaurant. The restaurant name was Cloud Nine. I believe it burnt sometime in the sixties or seventies. A little piece of history for our beautiful city. Next time I’ll head there and take some pics.
It was another beautiful day in this life! TYG!
