Day 138 ~ Thunderbird Mountain Glendale, AZ

August 10th, 2016 ~ Day 138

It was raining this morning when I got out of bed, thought twice about going hiking, but Eric made think about having to hike tonight. That wasn’t happening, so off we went. Besides, we were meeting my friend Sam.

Rain clouds were still in the sky when we got to the trailhead, and the sun was trying to make its way through. The ground was still wet, dirt and rocks had washed across the roadway.

The rains here come fast and hard, then they disappear. The mountains don’t have enough time to soak up the water as fast as it comes. Everything flows downhill, so you see grooves where the water has eroded the trail.

As we were hiking there was water still flowing down the trail. A little temporary river. Nice to see in the middle of a desert.

It was good to hike with Sam again. I think it may have been a year or two since the last time we went hiking together. Looking forward to more hikes and seeing my friend.
