Day 74 ~ Shaw Butte Phoenix, AZ

June 7th, 2016 ~ Day 74

A great hike today! Not as warm at 5:30 in the morning. I saw the sun rising as I was driving to the trail and it was able to still catch the trail end of it coming over the horizon as I got to the trailhead.

Training for Mount Whitney, I need as much uphill as possible and this trail is straight up hill. After not feeling so well yesterday, this was a little difficult for me. I ended up with almost three miles. I made it to the top where the stopping point for the Phoenix Seven Summit Challenge took place. Grateful to head straight back down from that point. 😄

I do love how you can see all the mountains surrounding the valley from this mountain. You don’t even have to be at the top of the mountain, you can see the views as you make you’re way to the top. I saw a few hot air balloons in the distance. I also noticed the city is becoming a layer of smog. I noticed a little bit Sunday as well, but I think it’s getting worse. Hopefully a good rain will come and wash it all away!
